But but but!  I'd like to chime in here and say that I've never had
nvidia's binary drivers work with hibernation.  Every time I've tried
with the binary drivers, the machine comes up and locks hard
immediately.

If you don't mind not having 3D acceleration, the free nvidia drivers
work quite well under all conditions that I've tested.

One other thing that you might want to think about using with
hibernation is your filesystem.  I had zero problems with ext2 on my
laptop, for about a year.  Recently I switched to ext3 and had a lock
or two on resume.  It hasn't happened recently, but I didn't change
anything to make it go away.  Ext3 is generally a good idea
regardless.
