I'm interested in starting a semi-regular keysigning at GSLUG
meetings. Would anyone else be interested?
For the unitiated, PGP keys are a way of both encrypting a message (so
it can't be read) and signing it (so it can't be tampered with).
By signing someone else's key, you say that you've seen their key and
their ID, and verified that everything matches. When enough people do
this, chains of trust can be found linking two people. This way you
can have some certainty that someone else is who you think they are,
even though you may never have met.
The shorter these chains of trust are, the stronger they are.
Keysignings reduce the overall breadth of the web of trust.
